
The College of Engineering at Alnoor University organized a scientific visit to the Qayyarah Refinery on Tuesday, April 22, for second- and third-year students in the Department of Petroleum Engineering. The visiting delegation was led by Dr. Taha Hussein Al-Salem, Head of the Department, accompanied by Dr. Abdul Azim Mahmoud, Dr. Issam Mohammed Saleh, and Dr. Mujahed Abdul Wahid.
The delegation was received at the refinery entrance by Dr. Azzam Saad Salman, the refinery director, and Dr. Mowafaq Ali Hammadi, head of a department at the refinery.
The visit included a scientific tour of the refining section, during which students listened to a detailed explanation presented by Engineer Qusay Ali Issa about the production operations at the refinery. The focus was particularly on the primary production of asphalt in all its types, in addition to the production of industrial gas oil used to operate some factories and generators, as well as fluid asphalt (Flincote), which is used as a base layer in road paving and structural coating. Other light derivative productions were also discussed.
At the end of the visit, Alnoor University presented the College Shield to both the refinery director and the department head as a token of appreciation for their warm reception and cooperation. An agreement was also made to strengthen academic collaboration through the production of joint research projects in the future.
